About Me

Designing With Passion While Exploring The World

Since my early childhood , I was being called “Alok Doctor” …..as that  time in our  area, most popular doctor was “Alok Doctor” .  When I  stood first in Entrance Exam of class V standard  then it was decided by my family member that I would have to be a “doctor” . This was strengthened when I got scholarship in VIII standard.  After getting 21 ranks in Secondary Exam, I had no option other than becoming a doctor. But in XI  standard I felt science is not  my subject.  So I decided to change the stream and started composing poems & lyrics. The moment “Tridev” of our family “Jethu, Papa & Kaku” came to know about it ,they showed their “Rudramurty” .  My brothers and sisters ( including  cousins we are – 8) started teasing me by reciting distortedly all of my poems publicly. So I had to surrender. All of my composition I put on fire and entered in to  MBBS course. In 5 years time of MBBS course there was no scope to think about any thing other than exams.  After passing MBBS, in Internship……… getting some leisure time that old ghost captured me again. As Rabindranath Tegore said in story of Gupttadhan …… “Kagaj porhano sahaj, basona kothin”; my old “basona” of becoming a lyricist again became aroused. I composed  near about 200 songs within 3 months period . Then I started sending it to music director and singers.  After braking heads   for a couple of months, I realised that it is not so easy to make a song.  So again I dropped that idea and rushed after DPM & DNB Courses. After being little bit settled up in private practice & new family life, I restarted finding out channel  to reach a music director. Incidentally I got opportunity to talk with Kalyan Sen Barat . He tuned my 8 songs. 13 June 2005, Haimanti Shukla recorded by 1st song “ Banshiwala , banshiwala”,  and I felt assured that I could be a lyricist. Latter on working with famous music director  Abhijit Bandyopadhay  & Mrinal Bandhyopadhay I came to know how to give lyrical  touch  to some of my writings  which are more of a poem rather than a song . Gradually I started  recoding 1-2 Album  / yr . Now more then 250 songs are recoded in 17 Albums, sang by most of the 1st rank  artists of Kolkata and Bombay.  In the mean time I started composing folk  & devotional  songs  which are tune by Pitu Nandi and Sukantha Adhikary. Some of the video script of my albums are also written by me. I have also dubbed Hindi Flimy songs in Bengali. Innumerous songs are in my hand yet to be recorded.

choose Psychiatry as a specialty because of two reasons. 1st is there will be no emergency , so that I can sleep well at night; 2nd is I will get opportunity to know about people …… not only about their illness but also their attitudes, views , notions , knowledge , ideas  & believe systems…….. which will help me for my creative work.  After getting DPM & DNB when I came  back to my native place for practicing …………… I didn’t find any patient. One of my well-wisher said that 2 mad per village I may get as a patient …………. so if I cover 50 villages then 100 patients I may get. I was  very much frustrated that time. I started meeting General Practitioner. One of them asked me …… “ DPM means what ………  Diploma in Preventive Medicine ?’’ I realized that I have to work hard to grow awareness about mental illnesses in our area. I wrote some booklets in Bengali about symptoms and Syndromes of mental illnesses and started distributing among different classes of people.

But even after knowing that depression and anxiety are mental illnesses  people hesitate to come to a Psychiatrist because of prejudice stigma & misconception So I wrote some more booklets about it. I started publishing these articles in magazines like “Sananda” , “Sushasthya” , “Sustha”,  local news paper, little magazines, souvenir of our area.  Now about 14 booklets I have written and been distributing the patients ………. free of cost. At present I am running total 10 clinics in three districts — Howrah, Purba & Pachim Medinipur. After struggling for 15 years now I feel people of these area are   more aware about mental illnesses than other parts of West Bengal.  But I have to struggle much more to develop psychiatric healthcare in my area

Since early childhood I like visiting places & taking photographs. Till date I keep on visiting places ……….. 3 -4  tours per year in India and abroad.  That  way I have good number of memories clicked up in different famous places of the world in different point of time.I am also lucky to get good friends circle in each point of schooling. I have captured some pleasant moments of that time and kept preserved even when mobile and camera were less  available. Those friends are now scattered throughout the world . I share these photos in social network with them and revive friendship once again. I also got opportunity to come closer to famous music directors and singers during recording of my songs. Some of them are no more in this world. But still alive in my albums. I have been brought up in a joint family. We , 12 brothers and sisters including cousins, are brought up together.  All of them are now settled up in different places of India.  There is hardly any chance of meeting all of us together at a time.  Through these photos , taken in different phases of life…….. I not only get back my past days but also feel their presence even when they are not around .

Accumulating all of my Albums ………. Audios , Videos , MP3s; all booklets  and photographs ……… I decided to keep in one webpage ……..not only to preserve those things but also to share with others who are interested to have a look on it. Now visit it and let me know how is it.
